The Citation Award is given in recognition of significant contributions made to the advancement of the profession through the fields of health, physical education, recreation, dance, or related fields. Such contributions may be in the form of legislative support, professional service, or specific participation in local, state or national program development. Dance Educator of the Year

This award is given to a dance educator who has major responsibility for teaching dance in grades K-12 (aerobic dance will be omitted from consideration). The candidate must show evidence of effective teaching, (1) through creativity and utilization of various methodologies, (2) promoting an understanding of dance as a creative art, emphasizing the significance of dance as an integral cultural component, (3) presenting a balanced and sequential curriculum, (4) encouraging an appreciation of dance as a performing art and (5) serving as a positive role model for students.

Health Educator Achievement Award

The Health Educator Achievement Award is given to an individual who has major responsibility for health education in a public or private school, grades K-12; an institution of higher education; a community health program; a government health agency; or a work site health program. The criteria include a minimum of ten years of teaching or work experience in the field of Health Education, a minimum of five years membership in WAHPERD, a minimum of five years membership in AAHPERD is suggested* (Affiliation with other national health organizations is also advantageous), and the candidate shall have made significant contributions to the profession in the areas of teaching, research, and creative activities or service.

JRFH/HOOPS Educator of the Year Award

This award was created by WAHPERD to honor Bill Budris for his outstanding dedication and accomplishments in JRFH. The criteria are: a current WAHPERD member; professional involvement with WAHPERD and JRFH/HOOPS, excellence in teaching, and has unselfishly devoted extra energy and interest in the health of children.

Life Membership Award

The Life Membership Award is granted in recognition of outstanding service to the profession and to the Association. One so honored must be retired and should have held membership in WAHPERD for a minimum of twenty (20) years. Outstanding service Is interpreted as offices held, committee membership, attendance at meetings/conferences/conventions, development of innovative programs, creativity in teaching, research, publications, and representation of WAHPERD in out of-state organizations. The recipient has all of the rights, privileges and services belonging to members, and shall be admitted to the annual convention at no fee.

NASPE Teacher of the Year Award

This award is given to a physical education teacher who (1) conducts a balanced and sequential curriculum that reflects an understanding of child growth and development, (2) utilizes various teaching methodologies and plans innovative learning experiences to meet the needs of students, (3) serves as a positive role model epitomizing personal health and fitness, enjoyment of activity, sportsmanship, and sensitivity to the needs of students, (4) participates in professional development opportunities, (5) serves on state/district/national committees and/or presents at workshops or programs at these levels. Teachers may have responsibility for teaching grades which cross the different levels, but teachers should apply for the level which represents 50% or more of their physical education teaching assignment.

Student Leadership Award

The Student Leadership / Future Professional Award is given to recognize outstanding leadership by a student who has been activly involved with WAHPERD for 2 years (presenter, worker, and officer). Teaching Honor Award

The Teaching Honor Award is given to recognize outstanding teaching in the elementary, middle, secondary schools or in the colleges or universities of Wisconsin. Recipients shall conduct a quality PE program as reflected by standards and guidelines, utilize various teaching methodologies, serve as a positive role model for the HPERD profession, participate in professional development opportunities and provide professional leadership through presentations, leadership or writing. The recipient should have a minimum of 5 years teaching experience and be a fulltime teacher with at least 60% of their contract devoted toward the teaching of physical education. Also indicate that in order to be advanced to Midwest / AAHPERD TOY program, individuals must be an AAHPERD member.

Teaching Honor Award/Adapted PE

This Award is given to recognize outstanding physical educators teaching adapted physical education to individuals with disabilities in programs for ages birth to adult. Recipients shall conduct an appropriate PE program as reflected in student individualized education program plans and based upon accepted APE standards, utilize various teaching methodologies, serve as a positive role model for the HPERD profession, participate in professional development and provide service to individuals with disabilities through advocacy, consultation, inservice training presentations and/or active membership in related professional organizations. Recipients of this award must have a minimum of 5 years teaching experience and be a fulltime teacher with at least 50% responsibility of their contact devoted toward the teaching of APE. In order to be advanced to the Midwest/AAHPERD-AAALF TOY program, the individual must be an AAHPERD-AAALF member.
