Membership Entitles You To:

ANNUAL STATE CONVENTION

Reduced registration for members. Over 80 quality program sessions on professional practices and updates. Continuing Education Clock Hours available from the DPI and the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing. Conventions are held in different locations throughout the state.

WORKSHOPS, CLINICS, INSTITUTES

Half and full day programs are scheduled in various parts of the state with the goal of bringing continuing education opportunities directly to members in each of WAHPERD's seven districts.

WAHPERD NEWSLETTER

Mailed in summer, fall, and spring to keep members informed of current events, news, and updates.

LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

WAHPERD structure provides leadership opportunities in over 80 elected positions and over 20 committees. Student leadership opportunities exist in elected positions and the annual workshop in Rhinelander.

POLITICAL ACTIVITY AND ADVOCACY

A vital and growing responsibility of WAHPERD is to promote desirable legislation and speak for our profession on matters of state and national concern. Provides position papers on Comprehensive School Health Education and Quality Physical Education. The office maintains Advocacy Kits and information from the National Association for Sport and Physical Education (NASPE) and the Association for the Advancement of Health Education (AAHE).

NATIONAL AFFILIATION

WAHPERD is an affiliate of the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance (AAHPERD). National and Regional (Midwest) Conferences are provided each year for AAHPERD Members.

GRANT OPPORTUNITIES

Each year thousands of dollars are awarded to individuals in public and private schools and agencies through WAHPERD/jump Rope for Heart Grants to promote fitness and heart health in the general population.

AWARDS PROGRAM

Professional members are eligible for various annual awards: Citation Award; Health Education Achievement Award; JRFH Educator of the Year Award; Promising Professional Award; Recognition Award; Retirement Recognition Award; Service Award; and Teaching Honor Awards.

All members receive a directory listing current members, WAHPERD organizational structure, Officers, committee members, workshop and conference dates, award recipients, and AAHPERD contacts.


Membership

All persons professionally engaged in health education, physical education, recreation education, dance, or athletics.

  • Professional Members shall be those who are professionally engaged in one or more aspects of health, physical education, recreation, dance, or athletics.
  • Associate Members shall be those who are not actively engaged in our profession but who have an interest in supporting the programs of our Association.
  • Student Members shall include in-residence students attending professional educational institutions where they are preparing for careers in health, physical education or recreation.
  • Retired Professional Members available.
  • Contributing Membership available to selected commercial firms entitling them to a byline in the newsletter and a priority for exhibition space at the annual state convention.
