Brenda Erdman

Welcome to WAHPERD

Hello, my name is Brenda Erdman and I am the current President of WAHPERD.  The WAHPERD (Wisconsin Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance) mission states…to provide members with professional development opportunities and be advocates for our profession.  This mission is carried out by a great WAHPERD team, which includes our WAHPERD board and committee members.  More importantly it includes every single member of WAHPERD throughout the state of Wisconsin.  WAHPERD, and its members, provide workshops throughout the state, participate in advocacy efforts at the local, state, district, and national levels; and has an outstanding convention each year in October.  WAHPERD also supports our teachers and future professionals by providing grants, and it provides a membership newsletter.

Wisconsin is one of six states that make up the Midwest District (Midwest AAHPERD).  We are also affiliated with the American Alliance of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (AAHPERD).  The AAHPERD convention this year will be in our “neighborhood” hosted by the Midwest District in Indianapolis, Indiana.  You can check out more about this great convention at the AAHPERD web site.

Excellence in Motion…Mind, Body, Spirit.  This is my theme for the year.  I would like you to decide if what you are doing is moving you, your students, or your family forward towards excellence.  Take ownership and pride in all that you do, whether it is teaching, coaching, writing grants, leading an after school program or taking care of your family.  Lead with excellence and be proud of who you are and what you stand for.  Your students and your family will look to you as a strong, committed leader.   I teach my students that the MIND is how you think and learn and we need to nurture it everyday, so be open to change and growth.  You BODY is how you move and grow and be ready to work hard because anything worth getting takes hard work, strong effort, and repeated practice.  SPIRIT is how you take care of yourself and others.  Your spirit is your character and how you reach out to others.

I hope you are choosing EXCELLENCE IN MOTION in your daily life.  It is my pleasure to serve as the President of WAHPERD, and to help WAHPERD to continue to move with excellence!  I would like to invite you to become more active in our association.  Please contact the WAHPERD office at 1-800-441-4568 or me berdman@rsd.k12.wi.us for more information.
